The Elkhart Fire Department had approximately 8,957 emergency calls in 2009, with a total of 15,626 responses. These calls were a combination of Fire and EMS. We currently staff 124 sworn firefighters. All firefighter are certified EMT's and 33 are certified as Paramedics. The Elkhart Fire Dpeartment also has 5 civillian employees two full time mechanics, two secretaries and one public safety officerThe Elkhart Fire Department maintains reports on all fire and ambulance calls.
