As we are seeing the effects of the COVID-19 surge in Elkhart County, there is an increase in traffic at the FREE State funded COVID-19 testing sites located at 1745 W. Lincoln Ave. Goshen and 200 E. Jackson St. Elkhart.

Due to the increase in testing over the past couple of weeks, please remember:

Preregistering for a COVID-19 test helps the check-in process to move quicker once you arrive at the testing site. If you are not preregistered for a test, the check-in process will take more time and create longer wait times for the people in line behind you.

Preregistering for a COVID-19 test DOES NOT mean that you will be tested at the time that you selected.  With the long lines at the testing sites, please prepare to wait your turn. This is not new information. We saw this in 2020 when Elkhart County was in a surge.

Be patient. You may have to wait in line for a few hours, but these are FREE tests. If you cannot wait to be tested, call your primary care provider to check on their testing ability, pharmacies like CVS and Walgreens also do testing, purchase an over-the-counter test, or go to another testing site listed at the top of Elkhart County Health Department Facebook page.

Behave respectfully toward the testing site staff. It is disheartening to hear stories of people in our community that have taken out their frustration on our testing staff. These staff members are working outside in below freezing temperatures FOR YOU. They are working these sites FOR YOU. Many of these individuals are volunteers who are giving their time TO YOU. Please be kind. Practice patience and exercise an attitude of gratitude when you are waiting to be tested.

Do not go to the hospital Emergency Room just to be tested for COVID-19. If you do not have a medical emergency that requires immediate attention, the Emergency Department is not where you should go just to receive a COVID-19 test.
